HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY
The Total Football Club (TFC) has its humble beginnings in the idea that a different type of soccer organization was needed in the greater Houston area. TFC sought to create a club that would serve as more than just an avenue for children to play weekend soccer. This club would not only give Houston area soccer players the opportunity to develop at a high competitive level, it would also foster the idea that soccer is more than a sport, it is a culture. Keeping that in mind, the club felt it was important to have children fall in love with the sport through learning about its history, attending professional games and other activities that would allow children to immerse themselves in all aspects of the game. At TFC we understand our club’s objective is not for everyone. The club’s goal is geared more towards those players and parents who are looking for a high level of development/competition in addition to learning more about “the beautiful game”. In the summer of 2011, with a small group of 3-5 year olds, what was to become TFC entered its first competitive 3V3 Tournament as the team “Dynamite”. In three short years the club grew to encompass several competitive teams and to initiate and expand a summer 4v4 league which eventually morphed into our continuous introductory development program for 5-9 year olds. This program, the Player Development Program, now feeds into our competitive team program. In the summer of 2014 TFC became a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization.
TFC was founded on the principal that development of all-around quality players can and should begin at a young age. To achieve this goal we utilize a coaching style grounded in the Dutch soccer philosophy in addition to using the best methodologies from around the world. The foundation of our concept is based on the TIPS methodology focusing on Technique of a player, Insight, Personality, and Speed. Each one of these points is key to becoming a successful all-around player. Accordingly, The Total Football Club initially formed an affiliation with the AJAX Online Football academy to facilitate our players’ and coaches’ educational opportunities. This affiliation brought many benefits to our club. Coaches were able to attend AJAX courses and in the summer since 2014 our players have visited Amsterdam and participated in the AJAX youth camp held at the De Toekomst training facility.
In the past five years we have developed two west Houston training facilities where our 19 competitive teams, ranging in age from U9 to U15, train full time.
